You never know who could use a pick-me-up

I used a writing activity in class last week.  Each student wrote their name on the top of the paper, and then passed it to the next person.  Each person had to write a compliment about every person in the class.  Today, I gave out class evaluations.  In answer to the Which class activities or assignments did you find most helpful? question, here’s what one person said:

The activity in which classmates wrote down optimistic opinions on me.  It made me confident.

And then at the bottom of the paper the student added:

You are not only good at teaching, but also very pretty.

Now this kid might have been angling for a better final grade with that one, but there’s something about receiving a compliment that makes you want to give them out to people around you, isn’t there?  Who could you encourage through a compliment today?

And since kids really do say the darndest things, I will post some of the other random comments students wrote in the days ahead.
